It's a question, or rather a mystery, that has existed for almost ten years now in the minds of fans of the Star Wars franchise that has finally been solved. Indeed, many wondered how Kylo Ren could have been in possession of Darth Vader's helmet. The answer has finally been provided after more than ten years of waiting.
The mystery surrounding Vader's helmet solved ten years later
As a Star Wars fan, we won't be telling you anything new if we tell you that Darth Vader, aka Anakin Skywalker, dies at the end of Return of the Jedi. In addition, you are not unaware that Kylo Ren, who appeared in The Force Awakens, the first episode of the postlogy Star Wars, is Vader's grandson. In the first installment of the latest trilogy released in 2015, the public was able to discover Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, facing Darth Vader's helmet that he keeps like a relic. The character who is the owner of the Sith Lord's half-melted helmet claims to intend to continue what Vader started.
Since then, many fans of the intergalactic saga imagined by George Lucas have wondered how Kylo Ren managed to get his hands on this helmet. After ten years of mystery, we must turn to Marvel Comics to finally find an answer to this question.
Darth Vader's helmet, a family heirloom
Indeed, in the comic book entitled Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising, we can discover the events that occurred before those of Return of the Jedi. In this story, we see Leia Organa, Kylo Ren's mother, who recovers the helmet of Darth Vader, her father, after being cremated.
By recovering this object, Leia makes Vader's helmet more than just an artifact or a macabre trophy for Kylo Ren to keep. It becomes a family heirloom. The discovery of the helmet shows that the history surrounding it is deeper than many fans imagined.
Especially since the novel Bloodline by Claudia Grey introduced us to the complicated relationship that existed between Anakin and Leia. It is surprising that the latter recovered her father's helmet, which symbolized oppression and terror in the galaxy, to make a relic of it. The comic suggests that the object represents both the fight of the Skywalker clan but also the fall and redemption of Anakin.
