A police officer from the Sûreté du Quebec, Miguel Guenette-Grégoire, is in trouble after being arrested Tuesday evening by his colleagues after an internal investigation for drug trafficking, Radio-Canada learned.

The 29-year-old police officer appeared today at the St-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse to formally face charges of breach of trust, obstruction of justice, unauthorized use of a computer and drug trafficking.

According to our information, the Service's internal investigation police standards from the Sûreté du Québec reportedly began at the beginning of the year after he received information about the agent's actions.

The evidence gathered in recent weeks allowed the SQ to lead to the arrest of Miguel Guenette-Grégoire, in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

We confirm that this police officer is currently suspended from his duties according to the rules established in the employment contract, declared Benoit Richard, lieutenant at the Sûreté du Québec.

Lieutenant Benoit Richard affirms that the SQ will not make additional comments on the arrest of one of its police officers, since the file is now in the hands of the courts.

The Sûreté du Québec, through the Police Standards Service, takes the necessary actions to preserve public confidence by demonstrating its transparency and professionalism within the framework of its investigative mandate.
