Spain will transfer Hawk anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine — what is their special feature

Spain  announced the transfer of Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine already in September. This will significantly increase the power of the Armed Forces' air defense.

This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Spain.

Hawk air defense system for Ukraine

As you know, the Minister of Defense   of Spain, Margarita Robles, held a telephone conversation with her Ukrainian colleague, Rustem Umyerov, and announced the transfer of systems to Kyiv.

Umyerov talked about the current situation at the front and the urgent needs of the Ukrainian army. At the same time, Robles reported on  future deliveries of military aid to our country and progress in the training of Ukrainian fighters — their number has already reached 5,000.

According to the Spanish minister, her country plans to provide Ukraine with a fully ready anti-aircraft battery Hawk in September. She believes that this will significantly increase the air defense power of the Armed Forces.

In addition, Robles added that Spain will provide an easy transfer from Poland for orphans and relatives of Ukrainian military personnel so that they can spend a few days in Spain.

What is known about the Hawk air defense system

Hawk air defense system — semi-stationary medium-range anti-aircraft missile complex. About two dozen countries are currently in service. The complex has three versions — Phase I, Phase II and Phase III. It was originally designed to destroy aircraft and was later modified to intercept missiles.

The range of destruction of targets of the anti-aircraft missile complex — up to 45-50 kilometers, the height of the target — up to 20 kilometers, the missile is guided by a semi-active homing head and flies at a speed of Mach 2.4.

Ukraine already has such complexes — they were previously given as aid by the allies.
