South Korea will deploy laser weapons to shoot down drones from the DPRK

South Korea will deploy laser weapons to shoot down North Korean drones already this year. Therefore, it will become the first country in the world to use this type of weapon.

The laser weapon development program in South Korea was called the “Star Wars project”.

The weapon was developed by the South Korean military together with by the company “Hanwha Aerospace”. Such a weapon – effective, invisible and cheap. The cost of one shot is only $1.45.

“Our country will be the first country in the world to deploy and use laser weapons. The capabilities of our armed forces to respond to provocations by North Korean drones will be even stronger.”, – reported in the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, adding that laser weapons will change the rules of the game on the battlefield in the future.

Laser weapons shoot down UAVs by burning the engine or other electrical part of the drone with beams of light in 10-20 seconds.

Countries including South Korea, China and Great Britain are rushing to develop and deploy laser weapons, also known as directed energy weapons, according to the US non-profit think tank RAND Corporation.
