Actress Sophie Marceau, who had already described Gérard Depardieu as a “predator”, hit the nail on the head on Thursday, believing that the sacred monster of French cinema had always handled “vulgarity and provocation” and sometimes attacked “the little assistants” during filming.

A group in favor of the actor also published on Tuesday a support article denouncing a lynching, signed by around sixty cultural personalities, including the director Bertrand Blier; actresses Carole Bouquet, Nathalie Baye and Charlotte Rampling; actors Jacques Weber, Pierre Richard and Gérard Darmon, as well as music personalities Roberto Alagna, Carla Bruni and Jacques Dutronc.
