He ran and never got tired of running. For 90 minutes, he showed no sign of being overwhelmed on the field. Andy Polo, whom we are referring to, remained with enough oxygen in front of the suffocating rival fans. And, with him, the 'U' knew how to get out of Matute.
The revival of Polo with Universitario in the fourth month of the year -he scored a goal against Ayacucho FC- had been quite promising, but the truth is that he himself gradually deflated, date after date.
All this time, the 27-year-old winger had a hard time living up to his fans' expectations. However, this weekend, the '99' demonstrated the sporting potential that has always characterized him at the most vital moment.
Against Alianza Lima, Carlos Compagnucci renewed his confidence in his starting scheme and, this time, he did not disappoint at any minute. Andy Polo, who before this Sunday had already played eight classics, exhibited all his experience in this type of match and simply shone.

The '99' cream was, without a doubt, the highlight of the match. Although he did not score a goal and provided assistance, his mere presence on the pitch drove the Alliance rivals crazy, and they could do little to contain him.
It helped both in attack and defense. His sacrifice in that sense was vital. In fact, he took a ball on the line to prevent the Blue and Whites' goal in the first half and was always very involved in midfield and up front.
His great journey also gave more oxygen to the team's midfielder and he won almost all his duels on the ground in the 90 minutes he played. He came to minimize Gino Peruzzi several times, who will surely have nightmares with him, because he could not stop him even with a hard foul that almost cost him his expulsion.

It is thus that the Clásico -inspiring for any player- maximized the virtues of an irregular Andy Polo, who -in the opinion of many- has played the best game since returning to the 'U' this year. It will be important, for the cream's benefit, to stay on that same path.
Meanwhile, Universitario celebrates a very important win at Matute, which It has allowed Alianza Lima to match points and place itself only four units behind the leader Sporting Cristal (it has one game less). Now Polo, the star of last Sunday, and the rest of the team, have to think about their next rival: Sport Boys.
