Wireless charging — one of the most desired features of modern smartphones. However, if you have a Samsung phone, this feature may be in jeopardy. The company's recent loss in court over its wireless charging patent means Samsung could be forced to either pay a fine or lose access to the technology.
In 2022, Mojo Mobility sued Samsung for infringing five wireless charging patents used in most phones released since 2016. Mojo refused to license its technology to Samsung back in 2013, after which Samsung continued to use those patents.

This means the company could use Mojo Mobility's developments in its phones, smartwatches, headphones, and more. If Samsung doesn't pay that amount, it will likely have to either remove wireless charging from future products or develop new technologies that don't infringe on patents.
There is a small chance, though unlikely, that Samsung could be forced to disable wireless charging on existing phones through software updates.
The company will likely appeal the decision, but its chances of success appear slim.
Samsung is not the first to face similar problems . According to estimates, the company is sued by patent trolls every day. Samsung is actively defending its interests, using an army of lawyers and trying to apply for its own technology patents in the US and other countries.
Even if Samsung's legal team exhausts all options, it is more likely that the result will simply be a significant financial cost. The process will likely take months or even years before users notice any changes, if at all.
