The new poll also shows that almost all respondents agree that political divisions in American society have increased since the beginning of 2021.

The Economist-YouGov poll showed that 43% of adults believe that the United States will be engulfed in civil war within 10 years, and only 35% do not believe in such a scenario, while 22% are unsure.

Those who identified themselves as “strong Republicans” were more likely to agree with the bleak forecast (54%) than those who identified themselves as “strong Democrats” ( 40%). But 40 percent of independents are also concerned about the imminence of civil war in the next decade.

The study also found that 65% of Americans believe that political violence has increased from 2021, and 62 percent fear that political violence will increase in the “next several years.”

Participants also saw political differences as a growing problem: 66% agreed that the country has become more politically divided as of 2021, and 63% agreed that political divisions will deepen in the future.
