A slice of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's wedding cake, baked for their wedding on November 20, 1947, has been sold at Reeman Dansie auction. The BBC reports this.

After the cake was found in a suitcase under the bed of a former housekeeper at the royal palace, the lot unexpectedly gained popularity and was sold for $2,800.

The cake, stored in a gift box along with a letter from Princess Elizabeth, was bought by a buyer from China. The four-tiered wedding cake, weighing over 200 kilograms and reaching 2.7 meters in height, has become a real culinary luxury, and now a piece of it is a rare rarity.
