Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently reported that Apple is likely working on a more «conversational» version of Siri. The goal of this update is to enhance Siri's capabilities so that it can compete with advanced voice services such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. The new version of Siri is expected to integrate more sophisticated language models, allowing for more natural dialogue.
What to know
Once these improvements are complete, Apple wants to strengthen its position in the field of artificial intelligence. The updated version of Siri will’appear on iPhone, iPad, and Mac and will likely be part of updates for iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16.
But, according to sources, the development of this innovation will continue until 2025, and the official launch can take place only at the beginning of 2026. We may see the first announcements as early as next year at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), but access to a wide audience will most likely come later.
Currently, Siri is already receiving updates through Apple Intelligence, which helps improve contextual awareness and make conversations more natural. However, real changes are yet to come.
As a beta tester for Apple Intelligence, I think it's worth giving the company time to develop the digital assistant it's planning. That might mean another 16-18 months of waiting, but given the criticism of Siri's development delays compared to other voice assistants, that extra time could allow for a better product.
Apple Intelligence was first announced at WWDC this year. The system uses on-device processing to preserve user privacy and assist with various tasks. It offers changes in the tone and style of letters, summarizes emails and messages for quick understanding, and improves interactions with Siri, making them more natural. In addition, it can remove unwanted objects from photos and help you manage your schedule and messages more efficiently.
Although the feature was announced a few months ago, the first part of Apple Intelligence became available only in October. Other components are expected to appear by the end of this year and in 2025.
