Since September 2022, when the State Duma of the Russian Federation increased liability for evading participation in the war against Ukraine, Russian courts have received 9,059 cases of unauthorized abandonment of a unit (337 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), 627 cases of failure to comply with an order (332 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and 339 cases of desertion (338 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This is reported by Mediazona.

More than 10,000 people are suspected of all these suspicions, 8,594 — the verdict has already been rendered.

Throughout the entire full-scale war, the courts of the Russian Federation were very active in passing sentences, at the end of April 2024 —  34-35 a day.

As a rule, Russians under these articles  are given a suspended sentence, which allows them to be returned to the front.

At the same time, journalists " Media zones” could not find out the number of  criminal cases against evaders that have already been initiated, but not brought to trial: neither the Investigative Committee nor the prosecutor's office reports on this.
