Sikorski calls for EU to stop aiding Ukrainians subject to mobilization

The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry is calling on Western European capitals to reconsider their approaches to aiding Ukrainians in order to encourage men to return to the country.

The minister cited the example of Germany. "Currently, Ukrainians who are under temporary protection in Germany receive significant assistance," he explained, adding that according to his information, the payments in question are in excess of 500 euros, and together with housing compensation, the amount could be more than 1,000 euros per month per person, and this also applies to men. "Something similar in the Netherlands, I don't know for sure the amount in France," he noted.

"There is a simple method to help Ukraine – stop providing assistance to Ukrainians who are subject to mobilization. Hiding from conscription is not a reason for financial assistance. Just stop paying them,– the Polish minister called, emphasizing that Poland does not provide such social support

The initiative of the Polish minister has the support of Kyiv.

“I support the idea expressed by Minister Sikorski,” said Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, who spoke with him at the panel discussion.
