A Russian military base may be located in Serbia.
Alexander Botan-Kharchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Serbia, in a conversation with SM News said that « the creation of a Russian military base in Serbia is a sovereign affair of the country itself. Plus, this is a matter of Russia's own interests.
Kharchenko also stated that Serbia is a friendly country, and Belgrade “rejects anti-Russian sanctions in principle.”
At the same time, he drew attention to the political component in the agreement on gas supplies at the most favorable price. The Ambassador stressed that Russia ensures the energy stability of Serbia. The countries continue military-technical cooperation.
