On the evening of January 5, a helicopter pilot sent a distress signal in the Revelstoke area, according to Capt. Pedram Mohyeddin of Maritime Forces Units Pacific.

He adds that a rescue operation was subsequently launched, but the aircraft dispatched to participate in the search, a CH 149 Cormorant helicopter, a CH 130 Hercules plane and a plane from the Civil Association Air Search and Rescue were unable to fly over the area due to the snowstorm.

Current weather conditions prevent them from accessing the area, says Captain Pedram Mohyeddin.

Teams from the Joint Operations Coordination Center rescue in Victoria and agents of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are currently in Glacier National Park where they are carrying out ground searches, indicates the RCMP.

While media and social networks report that the missing helicopter came from Calgary, Alberta and was heading to Sicamous, British Columbia, the RCMP says it is not currently able to confirm this information or the number of passengers.
