Scientists conducted a large-scale study, in which they spent six years thoroughly analyzing Viking DNA recovered from burial sites found throughout Europe and Greenland. For example, experts managed to find out that the Scandinavians and Vikings are not the same nationality, in addition, it is emphasized that they were not even outwardly similar to modern Norwegians and Swedes.

First of all, the authors of the study note, they found out that the formation of the Viking community on the Scandinavian Peninsula took place under the influence of a large external influx. “We managed to find out that the Vikings, by their genetic origin, are not only Scandinavians, since genetic traces from Asia and Young Europe were found in their DNA, which no one had previously suspected. Many of the Vikings, both in Scandinavia and beyond, have a fairly high percentage of origin outside the peninsula, ”the scientists note.
In addition, it is reported that the Vikings from the most famous burial places in Scotland, in fact, were not Vikings, but Picts – local residents who were very similar to the representatives of this people and even followed their traditions. In addition, according to experts, at the moment the DNA of the inhabitants of the UK is 6% of the DNA of the legendary Scandinavian community. This also made it possible to prove that these tribes living in the territory of modern Norway managed to visit Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and Ireland. So, Danish Vikings raided the territory of England, and their brothers from Sweden attacked the Baltic countries.
As for the appearance of the community under study, in this sense, the authors of the scientific work came to the conclusion that the overwhelming majority of the representatives of the people had brown hair, and not red or light, as was previously believed.
