Pineapples may prove helpful in countering the coronavirus pandemic. This assumption was voiced by scientists from the medical center at the University of Nebraska and their colleagues from the CBER in the United States.

As it turns out, pineapple stems contain significant amounts of bromelain. Subsequently, they can be used as an antiviral agent for new outbreaks of coronavirus infection. Studies demonstrate that the proteolytic enzyme suppresses the activity of SARS-CoV-2, having an effect on three components at once, due to which the pathogen enters the body and begins to multiply there, provoking COVID-19.
Earlier scientific work also suggests that bromelain can be used as a therapy for patients suffering from pain and inflammation. The point is that the specified compound is well absorbed and boasts long-term biological activity. These benefits will also be relevant in the fight against coronavirus.
