Scientists have found a way to charge electric car batteries in just 15 minutes

In the modern world, there are many devices without which we cannot imagine life, and most of them require time to charge. This is especially true for electric cars. However, scientists have invented a technology that will allow batteries to be charged in 15 minutes.

Researchers from the University of Waterloo have made a discovery in the field of lithium-ion battery production, thanks to which electric cars can be charged from 0% to 80% in just 15 minutes. This is reported by 24 Channel with a link to the Interesting Engineering portal.

How to charge batteries quickly

Now, even at fast charging stations, it takes an hour to charge an electric car. Instead, scientists decided to reduce this time by 4 times. Scientists have improved the anodes of lithium-ion batteries by using improved graphite with greater electrical conductivity, which allows the battery to be charged faster and makes it more durable. Such a battery can withstand up to 800 cycles.

In the future, scientists want to scale this project to produce more optimized batteries, because the researchers set themselves the goal of making electric cars cheaper and more accessible to the public.

If we can make batteries smaller, and ones that charge faster and work longer, we will reduce the overall cost of the car. This makes electric vehicles a viable option for more people, including those who don't have charging stations at home or live in apartments. It will also increase the cost of used electric vehicles, making electric transportation more affordable, – said Iverik Rangom, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
