A platinum-based product was created. Most commonly, drugs that include the latter have a number of side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and hair loss. Scientists have found that DNA damage does not occur when certain chemical modifications of cisplatin are used. The advantage is that such a remedy simultaneously launches the body's own immune system, helping it to identify “enemy” cancer cells. The authors of the work share that their drug was named PlatinER. It not only destroys cancer cells, but also actually activates antitumor immunity, which entails a regression of cancer.
Scientists hope that the resulting compound will reduce the number of relapses after primary chemotherapy.
