New eye drops that can replace reading glasses have been approved by India's drug regulatory agency. Tell us what they are capable of.

Entod Pharmaceuticals, based in Mumbai, has developed PresVu eye drops for the treatment of presbyopia, which affects between 1.09 and 1.80 billion people worldwide. This is written by the publication India Today.

Presbyopia occurs naturally with age, which leads to difficulty focusing on close objects. It usually begins in the mid-40s and worsens around the late 60s.

ENTOD Pharmaceuticals has received final approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) after the product was earlier recommended by the Sectoral Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drug Standards Organization (CDSCO).

PresVu is the first eye drops in India designed to reduce the need for reading glasses in people with presbyopia, a common age-related vision disorder that affects people over 40.

The manufacturers have applied for a patent for this unique formula and manufacturing process. The patented formula not only eliminates the need for reading glasses but also provides the added benefit of eye lubrication.

The eye drops feature advanced dynamic buffer technology that allows them to quickly adapt to the pH of tears, ensuring stable effectiveness and safety during long-term use. Considering that these drops can be used for years, this feature is especially important.

The approval of PresVu is a promising development in ophthalmology. For presbyopic patients, this eye drop offers a non-invasive option that can improve near vision without the need for reading glasses,
said Dr. Dhananjay Bahle, commenting on the clinical potential of PresVu.

It can have a significant impact on daily life and productivity. PresVu offers a non-invasive way to improve near vision, a common problem for people over 40, who may notice the condition when they start holding reading materials at arm's length.

Nikhil K. Mazurkar, CEO ENTOD Pharmaceuticals, emphasized the importance of this approval: “PresVu is the result of years of research and development. PresVu is more than just a product; it is a solution that will improve the lives of millions of people by offering them greater visual independence.”

Dr. Aditya Sethi added that PresVu could be an advanced alternative that improves near vision within 15 minutes.

Starting the first week of October, the prescription eye drops will be available in pharmacies at a price of 350 Rs. The drug is intended for the treatment of mild and moderate presbyopia in people aged 40 to 55 years.
