Scientists have created a revolutionary gadget that charges from the heat of the human body

Researchers from the University of Washington have developed a new portable device that uses the heat of the human body to generate energy. The gadget differs from others in that it is flexible and soft — according to the developers, this makes it convenient to use. The device is capable of powering small electronic devices – LEDs or sensors, and solves the problem of autonomous operation of fitness trackers and other similar devices. Interesting Engineering writes about it.

Thermoelectric semiconductors at the base of the gadget convert heat into electricity, and the materials reduce weight and improve the efficiency of energy conversion. The bi-metal tracks allow the device to be flexible and self-healing, increasing performance and heat transfer.

The device can be useful not only for gadgets that the user wears directly on the body, but also for  collection of excess heat from electronics, for example, servers in data centers, which can reduce energy consumption for their cooling.
