Scientists have created a revolutionary AI machine vision system for robots

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania have created a new PanoRadar system for robots that allows them to «see» using radio waves.

It is noted that the new technology converts simple radio waves into 3D images, which gives robots the ability to navigate in difficult conditions, such as smoke, fog or walls, where conventional sensors do not work.

PanoRadar works like a flashlight, rotating radio waves around and receiving reflections from surrounding objects.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, the system processes these signals and creates detailed 3D images. This allows robots to better navigate in environments where traditional cameras or light detection and ranging (LiDAR) systems are ineffective.

The technology could be used in rescue robots, autonomous vehicles, and other challenging environments.

The research team plans to further develop the system to work with other sensors, such as cameras or LiDAR, to create more robust systems for robots.
