Scientists representing the Universities of Maryland and Colorado (USA) have created glass from wood. The new material will become a “window of the future”. Researchers have found that it is as strong as the glass used during construction.

Scientists claim that glass made of wood is much stronger, safer, more economical and more efficient than conventional glass. The basis of the material is wood. It is much more environmentally friendly for nature. The material is obtained from balsa wood, which grows rapidly. To create “wood” glass, the material is oxidized in a bleaching tank and impregnated with a synthetic polymer. As a result, the “glass” becomes transparent and has the properties of plastic, that is, it is capable of withstanding impacts and bending.
According to information from the USDA, carbon emissions from glass production are 25,000 metric tons per year. Through this material, heat can leave the house. As a result, heating and electricity bills are increasing. By replacing the usual glass material with wood, you can reduce the cost of electricity and heat. Also, the production process will become much easier.
