Chinese experts from the University of Guangzhou conducted a study in which they found out that conventional wisdom about the benefits of a daytime sleep is not true and is mistakenly considered a good way to recover from a restless night. In addition, scientists emphasize that all previous studies on this topic were full of contradictions and did not take into account a number of important factors. As part of their scientific work, Chinese experts tried to take into account all possible factors, and in total, over 300 thousand people took part in their study, of which 39% are used to sleeping during the day.
The results obtained in the end turned out to be very interesting. For example, it was found that those subjects who practice sleep in the afternoon for 60 minutes or more are 34% more likely to face the risk of developing diseases of the cardiovascular system. In addition, in the case of this group of people, the risk of premature death from a number of other causes also increases by a third. It is also noteworthy that such a threat is relevant even for those people who fully sleep at night and whose total daily sleep duration exceeds the minimum required 6 hours.
Finally, scientists emphasize, most of all, daytime sleep harms the elderly and women. Now they expect to find out the exact reasons for this influence.
