Researchers invited 800 men and women to participate in the experiment. The age of the volunteers was 60-72 years. They measured the strength of the hand grip using a wrist dynamometer. Experts divided the resulting figure by the mass of a person and calculated the exact figure.
The normal level for men was 0.68 units, for women – 0.49 units. With a deviation of the force of compression of the hand from the norm downward by a couple of divisions, experts stated the risk of developing diabetes mellitus. And an increase in the indicator even by one unit reduces the occurrence of the disease by 50%.
