Scientists from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology conducted a study, according to the results of which they came to the conclusion that a person memorizes a new word in just 1-2 hours. Previously it was believed that this only happens the day after a night's rest.

The study involved volunteers who were asked to learn 8 invented words. Of these, 4 were similar to real ones, and the rest did not make any sense at all. In the process, Skoltech scientists studied brain activity. It turned out that the necessary connections appear in the organ faster than previously thought. The activity of the cortex began to change within two hours bypassing the structures of short-term memory, such as the hippocampus. Moreover, the changes were more pronounced when memorizing words similar to existing ones.
Scientists argue that the scientific work data will facilitate the diagnosis of speech disorders and will contribute to the search for new treatments.
