Spain: schoolchildren were tried for creating and distributing fake erotic photos of their peers. They created the photos using an AI service.

The court sentenced 15 schoolchildren to one year of probation, writes The Guardian.

The police began investigating the incident last year — the parents of the affected schoolgirls reported that provocative fake photos were being distributed in WhatsApp groups.

— Many of the girls were absolutely terrified, they had huge anxiety attacks because they suffered from it in silence. They felt bad and were afraid to talk about it and be blamed for it, – said the mother of one of the victims.

The case claims that the school students took photos of their peers from their social media profiles and superimposed the faces from the pictures on naked photos of women using AI.

In addition to the suspended sentence, the students must attend classes on gender issues and equality, as well as on the responsible use of technology.

Some countries are slow to share their data for the development of the AI sphere. For example, Brazil banned the company Meta from collecting data on its residents to train their artificial intelligence. The risks included causing serious harm and inconvenience to users.
