Scholz sees no reason to recognize a Palestinian state

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed that the government Germany does not yet plan to recognize the Palestinian state.

As European Pravda writes, Tagesschau reports this.

Answering a journalist’s question during a joint press conference with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro , he noted that "there is no reason" recognize the Palestinian Authority as a separate state.

"There is no clarity regarding the territory of (this) state and all other issues related to it", – Scholz noted.

Instead, the German chancellor added, what is needed is “a negotiated solution between Israel and the Palestinians that would provide for the existence of two states.”

It was previously reported that Germany will not follow the example of Norway, Spain and Ireland, which decided to recognize an independent Palestinian state.

Recall that Spain, Ireland and Norway announced on Wednesday that they would recognize a Palestinian state on May 28. European Union members Slovenia and Malta have also indicated in recent weeks that they plan to recognize Palestine.

In response, Israel withdrew its ambassadors  of these three states for “urgent consultations.”

The administration of US President Joe Biden has not supported unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state by Spain, Ireland and Norway, but supports such recognition in principle through diplomatic negotiations.
