German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has rejected the request of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to supply additional heavy weapons, including Leopard 2 tanks. Welt reports, citing sources in the Ukrainian government.

The basis for the appeal of the head of the Ukrainian government was a proposal from the armed concern Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) dated April 8 regarding the direct supply of tanks to Ukraine. At that moment, the company agreed with Kyiv on the supply of 100 tanks to Ukraine Leopard 2A7 in the amount of 1.55 billion euros.

The first tanks could be delivered 36 months after the conclusion of the contract.

According to Welt, Chancellor Scholz did not promise deliveries of Leopards, and the conversation on this topic was “general and non-specific.” /p>

In response to a request, the Scholz government reported that they did not stop supporting Ukraine both in military and political, financial and humanitarian terms.

BAGNET recalls that recently the German authorities published a complete list of weapons intended for the Ukrainian army . The list includes seven Panzerhaubitzen 2000 howitzers and spare parts for them. The Leopard 2 tank is not in the list of weapons.
