The office of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz slows down the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine – 11 Iris-T SLM anti-aircraft missile systems. Earlier, Germany promised that Kyiv could order this military equipment, and Berlin would pay, but the request of the Ukrainian side has not been answered for three weeks already.
How According to Welt, referring to government circles in Kyiv, in early July, the Ukrainian government submitted an application for the purchase of 11 Iris-T SLM complexes from the weapons company Diehl Defense. The Ministry of Economic Affairs in Berlin reacted positively to the application and sent it to the Federal Security Council, but after three weeks no decision had been made.
The council, which sits behind closed doors and includes nine ministers dealing with foreign policy and security policy, in all cases either disagreed or agreed with the unwillingness to supply weapons, – reports the publication.
At the same time, the journalists note that the final decision is made by the Federal Security Council, which is led by the Chancellery, so Olaf Scholz has the final say.
In addition, the publication draws attention to the fact that that these air defense systems would be very effective. It is believed that only one Iris-T SLM is capable of protecting a large city from air attacks.
