St. Louis Blues forward Samuel Blais was suspended for two games Thursday night for an act made during the previous day’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.
This is what the National League’s player safety department announced after the Quebecer revealed his version of the facts earlier today. He was also fined $ 25,862.
In a 4-1 win, Blais checked defenseman Devon Toews, hitting him in the head. The offending skater was assessed a minor elbow penalty at the start of the first period. His victim was able to complete the encounter.
The players’ safety department ruled that the head was the main point of contact for the checking and that it could have been avoided. This is the first career suspension for Blais, who scored an assist in less than 10 minutes of play in the game.
The two teams will meet in Denver on Friday evening.
