Samsung's next foldable phone may have a new name

Next Samsung's foldable phone may have a new name

In July, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but even before that there were rumors about a new foldable phone, which, according to preliminary data, was to be called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. However, according to a leak from Evan Blass (via Tom’s Guide), it could be called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition or the Galaxy Z Fold SE.

This new device promises to be unique. It is expected to have a titanium back panel similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. If true, this would be Samsung's first foldable phone with a titanium back, as previous models have used stainless steel or carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. However, with the transition to titanium, it is likely that the new product will not have S-Pen support, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

In addition, it has become known that the new foldable phone will have the same aspect ratio as the flagship models Samsung. This could mean that its screen will be wider than the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6. The report also mentions that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim/Special Edition could get a 6.5-inch display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and the internal screen could be 8.7 inches, as opposed to the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 7.6 inches.

Why Samsung decided to release this foldable phone at the end of the year remains an open question. So far, the company has released only one model of the Galaxy Z Fold each year. It is even more interesting that the novelty may be available only in China and South Korea, and a global release seems unlikely.
