Samsung will release a budget clamshell smartphone: what will it be like?

There are rumors that Samsung will introduce a budget Galaxy Z Flip FE next year along with the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Samsung will release a budget foldable smartphone. Android Police writes about this.

Samsung has long been a leader in the foldable phone market, but recently the competition has intensified. Brands like Motorola and Oppo are now offering foldable phones with decent specs at much lower prices than Samsung's flagship Galaxy Z Flip 6. To counter this, Samsung is rumored to launch a budget Galaxy Z Flip FE alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 next year.

Despite keeping the price affordable, Samsung is reportedly looking to maintain the experience of using this affordable foldable device while keeping costs in check. We recently learned that the Z Flip FE could use the same chipset as the Galaxy S24 FE . And now, display analyst Ross Young has reported that the Galaxy Z Flip FE will also use the same display technology as the flagship Galaxy Z Flip 6.

If true, this means that the Z Flip FE will feature a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with a resolution of 1080 x 2640 and a variable refresh rate of 120Hz. Additionally, the display can support HDR10+ playback with a peak brightness of 2600 nits.

New details about Samsung's affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE have emerged

There is no word on whether the screen on the Z Flip FE will match the Z Flip 6. However, to keep the cost down and differentiate the Z Flip FE from a flagship foldable smartphone, Samsung could include a smaller display. Other expected specs include 12GB of RAM, 256GB of onboard storage, and support for Galaxy AI features.

It's still a while before we see Samsung's affordable foldable phone in action, as the phone is rumored to be released in mid-2025 alongside other flagship foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Flip FE's specs may change before then, but leaks are starting to gather momentum. Expect more information to leak in the weeks and months leading up to launch.
