Samsung has been releasing foldable smartphones since 2019, but we still haven't seen a foldable iPhone from Apple. Rumors suggest that the first such iPhone could be released in 2026 or 2027, but by then Samsung will have made further progress in the development of foldable devices.
What is already known about the new transformer smartphone is reported by RBC-Ukraine (Styler project) with reference to the MacRumors website, which specializes in news, rumors and information related to Apple products.
What is known about the upcoming smartphone
Samsung currently has two foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Flip, which fold in different ways. The Galaxy Fold opens horizontally like a book, while the Flip opens vertically. The company is rumored to be working on another foldable device with a triple fold.
The development of such a gadget has been rumored for a long time, and Samsung even hinted at it as a “multi-sliding” device during the Unpacked presentation.
However, new details have emerged this week. As GSMArena notes, Samsung may call the new product the Galaxy G Fold, which will make it a separate line that will differ from the existing Z Fold.
The three-folding smartphone is expected to unfold into a full 10-inch screen, which will significantly surpass the current flagship Z Fold6, which when unfolded has 7.6 inches, and the Z Flip6 – 6.7 inches.
Samsung will not be the first company to release a similar device – Huawei has already introduced the Mate XT Ultimate. However, its price is $ 2,800. Thus, Samsung could become the first brand to launch a tri-folding device on the international market outside of China.
Traditionally, Samsung announces folding smartphones in July, and there is a possibility that the new product will be presented this year with a launch in early 2026.
If Samsung's tri-folding smartphone is released in early 2026, it will overtake Apple, whose first foldable gadget is rumored to appear no earlier than the same year.
As of 2024, Apple is reportedly developing a foldable iPhone with a design similar to the Galaxy Z Flip, that is, with a vertical fold. Such a device will likely be comparable in size to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but will be able to fold in half for greater compactness.
