Sales of new vehicles continued to decline across the country during the month of January. According to DesRosiers Automotive, 17.4% fewer vehicles were sold in the first month of 2021 compared to the same period last year. This decline is, however, less significant than that observed in the annualized sales report for 2020, the year which ended with a decline of 19.7%. This drop is attributed to the various levels of confinement that still prevail in the Canadian provinces. It should also be noted that the pandemic had not yet really tangible effects in the country in January 2020. Canadian buyers are also still fond of light trucks. DesRosiers maintains that 84.6% of vehicles sold in January were in this segment.
