The passing of Stanisław Tym. A loss for Polish cinema.

Sad news from the world of Polish cinema. A true legend is no longer with us.

On December 6, 2023, the world of film and art lost one of its most outstanding representatives. Stanisław Tym, a brilliant actor, screenwriter, and director, died after a long battle with cancer. His passing is an indescribable loss to Polish cinema, which has benefited greatly from his talent and passion.

Legend of Polish Cinema

Stanisław Tym, known primarily for his unforgettable role as President Ryszard Ochódzki in the cult film “Miś” by Stanisław Bareja, was not only a talented actor, but also the co-creator of the script for this work. His work will remain forever in the memory of viewers, and his characters have become part of the history of Polish cinema.

Although he was reluctant to talk about his private life and health, Tym gained the sympathy of many Poles as a satirist and artist who was able to combine humor with deep reflection on reality in an extraordinary way.

In the face of his passing, all we can do is remember and appreciate the artistic achievements that Stanisław Tym has forever inscribed in the history of Polish culture.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Stanisław Tym, who was an indispensable part of our cultural landscape and for decades influenced our collective imagination and sense of humor – reported the editorial team of “Polityka”.

Childhood struggles with illness and later challenges

Stanisław Tym, a well-known and respected actor, hid behind a veil of secrecy for decades of his career, especially in the matter of his health. Although he initially struggled with a serious illness in childhood, the real problems came later. In an interview with the periodical „Sztuka życia” the actor recalled the dramatic moments of his childhood.

Childhood Illness

At the age of twelve, Tym struggled with severe stomach pain, but for a long time he did not admit to it. As he recalls, the situation became so serious that an ambulance had to be called. His mother, fearing for her son's health, prayed that there would be no beds in the children's hospital on Kopernika, because she was aware that two of his friends had died there. Fortunately, as is often the case in life, their prayers were answered – there were no places.

Although childhood illness was a dramatic experience for Tym, from the perspective of years it seems that what came later turned out to be an even more difficult challenge. His reluctance to talk about health, both physical and mental, arouses curiosity and respect for his privacy.
