Former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili plans to leave the United National Movement party he founded in Georgia and leave Georgian politics. This was stated politician's lawyer Valery Gelbakhiani.
Saakaashvili, who is serving a prison term, wants to devote time to his health.
Apparently, he has been thinking about this for a long time, but no one gave him the opportunity to announce it publicly, because they did not want scandalous dissonance. And now he declares that he has no claims against anyone. His political resource has been exhausted, his agenda and tasks have also changed.
The lawyer explained that the main task of the ex-president of Georgia now – “take care of your health, save yourself from possible danger, death.”
The lawyer noted that Saakashvili “generally comes from Georgian politics, not only from the National Movement, since now it is a matter of life and death, not politics.” Mikheil Saakashvili is no longer interested in politics, Valery Gelbakhiani assured.
"United National Movement" – the largest Georgian political party, founded in 2001. It advocated for political and economic reforms, for Georgia's accession to NATO and the European Union.
Recall that the former president of Georgia (2004-2013) and ex -Chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration (2015-2016) Mikhail Saakashvili sentenced by a Georgian court to three and six years in prison for abuse of office. Several more criminal cases are under trial.
< p>During his imprisonment, Mikheil Saakashvili went on a hunger strike several times. According to experts, the politician suffers from depression because he cannot get used to life in prison.
