Russia's new offensive is absolutely real and Ukraine needs more weapons – ministers
Russia has more “iron and meat”, and the threat of revenge and re-offensive is very real.
Therefore, as stated in a joint statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, Ukraine needs weapons and equipment in order to win over the advantage on the battlefield to its side, for this British Challenger tanks alone are not enough.
«Russia still retains a significant advantage in the number of troops, armaments and military equipment. Russian troops continue offensive operations in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin is determined to further intensify hostilities. An attempt to take revenge on Russia for its failures in the war against Ukraine, including the threat of a new full-scale offensive by Russian forces, is very real, », — it says.
That is why, according to the ministers, they decided to appeal to all partner states that have already provided military assistance or are planning to provide it, with a call to significantly increase their practical contribution to strengthening Ukraine's ability to defend itself, to bring this assistance to a qualitatively new level.
“One of the most acute and most urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine today — improving their provision with modern armored vehicles and strengthening their fire and maneuvering abilities with the help of Western-style tanks, — the ministers say.
As the foreign and defense ministers say, they welcome the bold and timely decision of the UK to transfer the first squadron of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine.
“But this is not enough to achieve operational goals . Therefore, we appeal to the states that have Leopard 2 tanks in service, including Greece, Denmark, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, Finland, Sweden. We guarantee that we will use these weapons responsibly and exclusively to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders, — say Kuleba and Reznikov. — We appeal to all these and other states that have the appropriate capabilities to join the initiative to create an international tank coalition in support of Ukraine and make their practical contributions to this initiative.
