Russians will no longer be issued Schengen visas under the simplified regime

Russians will be issued visas on an individual basis with taking into account personal circumstances.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, the foreign ministers of the European Union countries have reached political agreements on the issue of visas and the simplified procedure for issuing them will be completely suspended.

"We have seen how, since mid-July, border crossings from Russia to neighboring states have increased significantly, which has become a security risk factor for these neighboring states. In addition to this, we have seen many Russians travel for pleasure and shopping as if there is no war in Ukraine. The Member States believe that we are no longer doing business as before, and that cannot be… We believe that more should be done. Therefore, we agreed, politically – this is not a legislative text, but political agreements, we agreed that something should be done. First: the complete suspension of the EU-Russia visa facilitation agreement. A total suspension,” Borrell said.

Borrell explained that in this way it would significantly reduce the number of new visas issued by Member States.

β€œIt will be a more difficult and longer process. And the number of new visas will be significantly reduced. This is – a collaborative approach that will prevent “visa shopping” Russians to travel back and forth,” added the head of European diplomacy.
