Russian tanks hit perfectly: an 11-ton robot with an ATLAS gun was presented in Australia (video)

The new robotic BMP is equipped with an automated Vantage turret, so it is effective not only against lightly armored vehicles.

At the Land Forces 2024 exhibition in Melbourne, BAE Systems Australia presented its new development — a modular unmanned robotic platform called the Autonomous Tactical Light Armor System (ATLAS) in the Collaborative Combat Variant (CCV). This machine is positioned as “combat led” by analogy with unmanned aerial vehicles accompanying manned fighters. The development is aimed at use in the “battlefield of the future”. This is reported by Defense Express.

According to representatives of BAE Systems, the ATLAS CCV is designed to be a valuable addition to existing manned platforms such as tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. At the same time, it has an important advantage — reduction of operating costs. As The War Zone notes, another key factor is that these machines require fewer personnel to maintain.

The machine was initially developed with an emphasis on autonomous operations, and this applies not only to the ability of a robotic BMP to bypass obstacles and lay a route. It is also capable of making tactical decisions on its own, which brings it to a new level of combat effectiveness.

To ensure autonomous capabilities, a complex of various sensors is integrated into the machine, providing high situational awareness. In addition, reliable communication with other platforms, both unmanned and manned, is provided, which actually brings the concept of “swarm” closer, but on ground operations.

At the same time, fire control remains with the operator, thanks to the “man in the loop” type guidance system. The machine can independently recognize targets and perform other tasks, but the final decision to engage the target will always be made by a human.

In terms of armament, ATLAS has a modular design that allows it to be equipped with various types of weapons, including a 120 mm mortar . In the variant presented at the exhibition, the robotic BMP was equipped with an automated Vantage turret, which adds flexibility in the choice of means of destroying the enemy.

The 25-mm M242 Bushmaster gun, according to the publication, is the optimal choice, because it effectively copes not only with light armored vehicles, but also with tanks, which clearly confirm the actions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Its dual ammunition supply system allows you to quickly switch between different types of projectiles, and the total ammunition is 260 shots.

The weight of the machine with the 8×8 wheel formula is 11 tons. It is created on the basis of Supacat HMT. The goal was to balance the passability and transportability of the car — its dimensions allow it to be transported in airplanes or landing craft.
