The Finnish edition Iltalehti published an article about how Russia reacted               The author of the publication indicated that the Russian Federation would respond to the accession of this Scandinavian country to the North Atlantic Alliance by strengthening troops on the border. In connection with this, he drew attention to the statement of the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu about the need to create two new military districts near the Finnish border. The minister also said that a new army corps should be formed in Karelia.

Last week, Shoigu, as part of the work in the combined group of troops, held a meeting on increasing the size of the armed forces of the Russian Federation to 1.5 million military personnel. According to him, it is necessary to create the Moscow and Leningrad military districts, reformat a number of military formations, and part of — create from scratch.

BAGNET recalls that last spring Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO. So far, only 28 of the 30 NATO members have ratified the applications of the two countries. Turkey and Hungary did not approve the initiative.
