The state corporation “Rosatom” can build 6-7 new power units in Russia to bring the share of nuclear power in the total balance to 25%, said the first deputy head of the corporation Ivan Kamenskikh at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and representatives of the nuclear industry.
“It is a serious task to bring from a 20% share of nuclear power in the total energy balance to 25%. We have made a certain assessment, and, you know, the task is really difficult, taking into account that we will be decommissioning RBMK – our old reactors.” , – noted Kamenskikh.
“And in order to replenish and reach 25%, we will have to build from 6 to 7 blocks. We are now starting to study this issue with the Ministry of Energy,” he said.
Currently, there are 10 nuclear power plants operating in Russia, as well as a floating nuclear thermal power plant (floating nuclear power plant with a capacity of 70 MW). In total, 36 power units are in operation at 10 nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of about 30.3 GW. The share of electricity generated by nuclear power plants in Russia is about 19%.
