Romania to speed up ammunition purchases amid Russia's war against Ukraine

Romania will speed up ammunition purchases in response to Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.

This decision was made on September 19 at a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) chaired by President Klaus Iogannis, Euractive reports.

The Council noted that Russia's aggressive actions have changed the security situation in the region, requiring a review of priorities and adjustments to military procurement programs.

According to a statement from CSAT, these changes are aimed at strengthening defense capabilities Romania to respond to new threats. In particular, it is expected to increase the volume of ammunition purchases and build up strategic reserves.

The importance of developing domestic industrial potential for the production of modern military equipment, maintaining existing equipment in working order and ensuring the security of the supply chain was also noted. In addition, the need to develop and produce new equipment to strengthen military potential in times of crisis or war was emphasized.

The meeting discussed the latest developments related to Russian aggression, including the recent escalation, which is a clear violation of international law.
