The Rings of Power: the kiss of discord

Launched a few weeks after the conclusion of season 2 of House of the Dragon – the first spin-off of Game of Thrones produced by HBO -, the second batch of episodes of the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerbegan on August 29, 2024 on the Prime Video platform. Heavily criticized since its first season, despite an exceptionally high budget, particularly for its numerous deviations from the lore of J.R.R. Tolkien's work, the series' main mission is to restore the confidence of fans of the father of modern fantasy in order to prove that Amazon has succeeded in its bet.continues to attract less than flattering comments from viewers. While the problems of pacing are still mentioned, what crystallizes the most criticism remains the “infidelities” with respect to Tolkien's writings. While everything suggests that The Stranger is indeed Gandalf – although he was not present in Middle-earth and it would have been more interesting if he was one of the Blue Wizards -, episode 6 taught us that the crown with which Adar killed Sauron in the first of season 2 was that of Morgoth. We explained in this article why this goes against what is told in books.

Today, another scene has raised many eyebrows: in episode 7, the elf Elrond kisses Galadriel, before going into battle. Although this kiss was not romantic and was intended to distract Adar in order to discreetly give Galadriel something to free herself from her chains, it did not fail to create controversy. Indeed, a number of fans have recalled that Elrond will marry Celebrian, the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. In other words, Galadriel is Elrond's future mother-in-law.

So Amazon has literally devolved into fan fiction that flirts with incest. They have Elrond having a romance with Galadriel, his future mother in law. This show is beyond garbage. pic.twitter.com/Zomk4FwO97

I'm not sure what people are in denial about. This scene was 100% romantically framed. The music sounded when they kissed.

The writers bent over backwards to create a situation where Elrond and Galadriel would kiss. They didn't do that for no reason. #TROPSpoilers https://t.co/4RZL3PaiO7

The writers went to great lengths to create a situation where Elrond and Galadriel would kiss. They didn't do it for no reason.

That kiss between Elrond and Galadriel makes no sense

Holy mackerel… watching this week's episode of the RoP and Elrond-Galadriel kiss weirded me out knowing she's his mother-in-law… smh

So unexpected. Nobody asked for it. There should be a better way to hand over the pin. May the Valar save us all ud83dude44 pic.twitter.com/FhpW2BLYut
