Washington Post cited unnamed Ukrainian officials as saying that recent attacks in Crimea were organized by Ukrainian special forces

A series of explosions in Russian-occupied Crimea over the past week , are part of a new strategy for Ukrainian forces in the ongoing war, a Ukrainian official said.

A week ago, nine aircraft were destroyed in an attack on a Russian air base in Crimea. On Tuesday, a series of explosions rocked an ammunition depot at a Russian base.

Russia called the latest attacks a “sabotage.”

Ukrainian officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Washington Post that responsibility for the attacks carries Ukrainian special forces in Crimea.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov told the publication that the official position of the government in Kyiv is that it neither confirms nor denies Ukrainian involvement in the attacks in Crimea.

< p>At the same time, Reznikov said that striking targets behind Russian lines is part of Ukraine's current military strategy.

He added that Ukraine does not have weapons with a range that would allow hitting targets in Crimea from controlled its territory.

In 2014, Russia seized the Ukrainian Crimea. The Ukrainian authorities promised to return the peninsula and other territories occupied by Russia after the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
