Residents of Switzerland “acquired” communists

The founding congress of a new political force took place in Switzerland  – Revolutionary Communist Party, reports Swissinfo.

The founding congress of the Swiss Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) on May 10-12 was attended by 342 people – students and workers, of whom ten issued a party card and almost 100 more expressed a desire to do so.

RCP Political Secretary Dersu Geri called for the “return of revolutionary communism” and added that the new generation of Swiss “drew revolutionary conclusions” from the climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, "imperialist wars and inflation".

The party has predictably expressed solidarity with protests against Israel's military operation in Gaza and argues that the spread of the pro-Palestinian movement around the world portends "coming revolutionary explosion.”

In June, the Revolutionary Communist Party of Switzerland plans to hold a “Revolutionary Communist International.”

In Switzerland, the Communist Party existed from 1921 to 1940, when it was banned by the government due to for calls for a violent overthrow of the government. After the end of World War II, the ban was lifted, but at that time the former communists joined the more centrist Social Democratic Party.
