Sometimes he would come back late at night, smelling of foreign perfume.

Real Life. "My Husband Stopped Coming Home on Time": Then I Found Out He Was Living a Double Life

At first I thought it was just a temporary crisis. My husband, Michael, started coming home from work late, explaining it was because of overtime, urgent projects, and business meetings. He was always ambitious and dedicated to his career, so I believed his explanations. But over time, these excuses started to sound more and more far-fetched.

Sometimes he would come home late at night, smelling of unfamiliar perfume. Other times I would call him and he wouldn’t answer the phone, later explaining that he had an important meeting and couldn’t talk. I started to feel like something was wrong, but every time I tried to talk he got upset.

– „Stop being so suspicious, Anka. I have so much work to do, and instead of supporting me, you're just making scenes for me.”

I believed him. Or at least I tried. But deep down I felt something had changed. Our conversations had become superficial, he avoided closeness, and when we spent time together, his mind seemed to be elsewhere.

The turning point was the day I saw his phone lying on the table. Michał went to the bathroom, and a notification appeared on the screen: „Honey, I miss you. When will we see each other?”. My heart jumped into my throat. I couldn't believe this was really happening. With trembling hands, I unlocked my phone and started looking through the messages. The content of each one was like a punch to the heart.

The woman he was texting was called Aleksandra. From our conversations, it turned out that they had been meeting regularly for several months. They planned trips together, talked about their dreams, and he promised her something he had never told me – future together.

When he came back into the room, I had the phone in my hands. I looked at him, trying to hold back the tears.

– „Who is Aleksandra?”

His face immediately hardened. He tried to snatch the phone from me, but I was faster.

– „Don't try to deny it. I saw everything. How could you?! We're married! You swore loyalty to me!”

He didn't answer right away. For a moment he looked at me, as if weighing what to say. Finally, he sat down heavily on the couch.

– „Anka, I'm sorry… I didn't want you to find out like this.”

– „You didn't want me to find out? So you planned to lead a double life until you left me?!”

His silence said it all. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I didn't want to cry in front of him. I wanted an answer.

– „How long has this been going on? And why?”

Michał looked at me, and I saw a mixture of shame and regret in his eyes.

– „For a few months. I met her on one of my business trips. I don't know how it happened, Anka. We just… started talking, and then it all went too far. But it didn't mean anything.”

I clenched my fists. “It meant nothing– those words were like a slap in the face.

– “It meant nothing? You're planning a future together! You're promising her a life that you should build with me!”

I didn't want to listen to him. I left the house, taking only the most necessary things.

I moved in with a friend, trying to get my thoughts in order. For a few days, Michael called and wrote, begging for forgiveness. He claimed it was a mistake, that he only loved me, that he wanted to fix everything. But I couldn't forget. Every word, every promise he made to that woman, kept ringing in my head.

Finally, I went home to get the rest of my stuff. Michael was there, waiting for me.

– „Anka, please, give me a chance. I ended it. I broke up with her. I beg you, don't go.”

I looked at him, feeling a mixture of love and anger. He was a man I had loved for years, but now I saw him as a stranger.

– „Michał, you betrayed me. You broke our marriage. I don't know if I can forgive you for that.”

Today I live alone. Our marriage didn't survive that betrayal. Michael tried to save our relationship, but I couldn't live with someone who was leading a double life. This story taught me that trust is the foundation of every relationship, and when it's destroyed, it's hard to rebuild. Although I'm hurt by the loss of years together, I know that I deserve someone who will love me fully, without secrets and lies.
