In 1970, Plymouth hoped to convince Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro buyers to opt for the Barracuda instead. One of Plymouth's tactics was to offer more personalization options.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Henry Ford, in an effort to make production as cheap as possible, began to paint the bodies of the Model T exclusively in black. For marketing purposes, the catchphrase was born: “You can buy a car of any color, provided that it is black!”. In subsequent years, especially in the rich post-war (in a certain country!) City streets were painted with bright cars of many colors and shades, even domestic Muscovites, Ladas and Volga were painted in cheerful colors. Well, at the beginning of the 21st century, the pendulum of history swung in the opposite direction and the modern color palette of cars can be described as “Fifty Shades of Grey” … But enthusiasts remember other times and one collector from the USA decided to reproduce an advertising brochure from 1970 that offered Plymouth Cuda customers 25 body colors .

Plymouth's ad said that “it's not just power that makes a car a supercar”! On one page of the brochure, there were options for rims, a gearshift lever in the form of a weapon handle, an air intake on the hood (which was called a shaker for shaking) and, most importantly, 25 (!) body color options!

There was only one problem with promo-Kuda – it did not exist in reality. The amount of work required to apply all possible colors to the body would clearly not pay off! But American collector Tim Willborn (owner of the Muscle Car Museum from Alabama) decided to turn the 1970 PR idea into reality. We found a suitable donor, restored the body and applied a film on one side to facilitate the work. The left side was left in its original form, even the optional drag racing wheel on the back is one … The project was completed in 2016.

I wonder if the dominance of gray/white/black cars on the roads will someday stop ?! After all, there were times when the premium Mercedes-Benz S-Class could be not only black …
