I have a wonderful older brother. Karol and I have always had a close relationship.
Even as children we almost never argued, always sharing our innermost thoughts. Everything was fine until recently. Until Karol met his Ola! When my brother introduced us to his girlfriend, who was still a young woman at the time, no one in our family liked her.
We are simple people, we don't earn millions, our parents don't have higher education – they earned every penny of their lives by hard work. Ola, on the other hand, is the only pure hard worker in our family! Although she never says it directly, she always shows us with her appearance that we are no match for her.
When my mother suggests a dish for her daughter-in-law to try at the holiday table, she always wrinkles her nose: “I don't eat that stuff. I don't eat that either. Eat it, don't worry about me!”
She doesn't seem offended, but she sits with her back straight and her eyes bored. Every cell in her body shows that she doesn't like it. My mother and I love talking. My brother has always been the life of the party, a joker and a flirt. If you ask her directly, she'll answer, but she's never said or asked anything in three years.
The apartment where her brother and sister-in-law currently live belongs to Ola. The parents didn't like the idea of their son living like a stranger in someone else's territory. It didn't seem right. But Ola wouldn't listen to our arguments. During the conversation, she was rude to our parents for the first time. She said, “We'll decide everything ourselves, don't interfere.” We all had to accept the fact that Karol now lives with Ola. But she doesn't let anyone into her apartment!
We managed to visit my brother only a few months after the wedding! My daughter-in-law has huge cockroaches in her head. She wouldn't let us into the apartment when she was at work. But Ola's schedule is variable, and her weekends rarely coincide with mine. Then she came up with the idea that in order to visit my brother, I have to give her a few days' notice. I have to at least clean the apartment and bake you a cake for tea,” my sister-in-law said, but I knew perfectly well that these were empty excuses.
Recently, my brother asked my husband to help him bring a new refrigerator into the apartment. It was a chance we couldn't miss! Of course I went with him. My brother told me that he and Ola had recently bought a new chandelier and a TV stand, so I wanted to see some new things. When the men brought in the refrigerator, my husband was walking down the hall in his shoes. Taking off his shoes with the refrigerator in his hands was uncomfortable, and he had on lace-up sneakers. It was easier for my brother, who simply took off his slippers. Ola saw my husband entering the kitchen in his shoes and screamed. She started scolding the grown man like a schoolboy: “What kind of people are you? Why don't you appreciate the work of others? Do I have to clean up after you too?” – my sister-in-law started out of nowhere. My husband took off his shoes, and my brother asked Ola to put the kettle on and thank us for our help, even if it was with a delicious tea. But Ola had already started and said she wouldn't serve tea to people who didn't respect her.
My husband and I decided to leave the inhospitable hostess as soon as possible. In the hallway, Karol whispered an apology for his wife's behavior. My husband and I both got over the incident. But I'm not going to forgive her for what happened that day! It was Ola who didn't let our parents in when they came to visit to congratulate the young family on their wedding anniversary. The day before, we talked to my mother and she said that although she didn't like Ola very much, she wanted to try to improve her relationship with her for Karol's sake.
In three years of marriage, they had never invited their relatives to the table. And now it's their wedding anniversary! A great reason to meet and talk. The young couple arrived, but she wouldn't let them in! When the parents rang the bell, no one opened the door! They waited for twenty minutes. They rang the bell, knocked, called Ola's phone, but no one came out. I'm sure Ola was home! It was her day off.
Then my mother called me in tears. She asked me several times why she was being punished like that. Later I called my brother and told him everything I thought about him and his wife. I told him that until they apologize to our parents, none of our relatives will contact them anymore! Let's see how they sing when all their relatives cut off contact with them!
