Subantarctic penguins traditionally nest near “Vernadsky” – they can be easily recognized by their red beak and white stripes on the temples. According to the estimates of polar explorers, the number of subantarctic penguins on Galindez Island last season reached a record 7,000.

At the same time, isolated pairs of representatives of another, no less attractive species appear on Galindez Island – Adélie penguins >. They are smaller in size, with a completely black head and white-blue eyes.

Subantarctic penguins easily get along with Adeles, since the two species of birds do not mate. among themselves and do not fight for territory. “In general, Adele penguins are more cold-loving penguins, while sub-Antarctic penguins are more heat-loving. Therefore, with climate change, the population of the latter is increasing, – polar explorers explain.
