Minister Radosław Sikorski shared information about his salary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Internet users.
It turned out that his salary for December was PLN 9,892.24. Sikorski commented on this briefly, noting the increase in the minimum wage and a 5% raise for the government.
Storm on the web after Minister Sikorski's post
Many comments appeared under the minister's post, which were divided as to the amount of his earnings. Some believed that it was a small amount considering the responsibility he has in his ministerial position. Others, however, pointed to additional privileges of the government, such as mileage allowance, allowances or housing.
Internet user Patryk drew attention to additional benefits that can significantly increase the minister's salary. However, Sikorski quickly responded that he does not receive mileage allowance or bonuses from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also does not use a service apartment or parliamentary allowances, because he is not a member of parliament.
As for the foreign allowance, the minister explained that he receives about €45 per day of stay – the same as other MFA employees. In response to questions about allowances and other financial benefits, Radosław Sikorski was honest and transparent.
The last few days have brought a storm of comments on social media after Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski revealed the amount of his salary for December. Many people reacted with outrage, pointing out the glaring disparity in salaries between politicians and representatives of other professions.
Voice of society
Some commentators pointed out that the minister's salary is lower than that of an IT specialist who is just starting his career. “It is unheard of that the work of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is so underestimated… No comment,” wrote one internet user. Another added: “It's a joke that the head of Polish diplomacy earns less than an IT specialist entering the industry. This needs to change.”
Responsibility and remuneration
Many commentators emphasized that, considering the scope of duties and responsibility, the minister's remuneration is inadequate. “A pathetic rate, a shame for our country!” – one of the users summed up. The discussion also included a statement that the minister, prime minister and president should earn much more to properly represent our country.
